What is Community Futures
Home

Established in 1986, Community Futures Shuswap was formed to support the emerging business and community-based needs of the region. As part of a larger provincial and national network, Community Futures – Shuswap is an independent organization, locally-governed by a board of directors who volunteer their time, energy and expertise. A team of skilled staff provides a wide range of community economic development and business services. We actively support community-based economic development with a range of products and services aimed at creating diverse, sustainable rural communities throughout our region.

The Community Futures concept is built on the firm belief that the most effective process for achieving economic renewal comes from within the community. Community Economic Development can be described or defined in many different ways; it is widely agreed that through Community Futures, Community Economic Development can best be described as:

Development of the community, by the community, for the community.

There are 268 Community Futures organizations located across Canada. In British Columbia, 34 Community Futures are working independently and jointly to strengthen local economies and communities.

United with 33 other Community Futures locations in BC, Community Futures Shuswap shares a common vision to create diverse, sustainable communities by supporting local, community-based economic development.

Community Futures Shuswap is committed to:

  • Acting as a catalyst for community economic development in the region by assisting our stakeholders with project coordination, advocacy, and strategic community-based initiatives;
  • Promoting and supporting diverse, sustainable community economic development in the region;
  • Creating and maintaining private sector employment through advisory and investment services to small business.
